David C. Lizárraga Receives Latino Leaders Magazine’s MAESTRO Award

USHCC Chair Is Honored by Latino Leaders Magazine at Annual Summit

David C. Lizárraga, Chairman of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), received the MAESTRO Award for Leadership from Latino Leaders Magazine, which commended him as one of “the greatest Latinos of our times” who has “changed the course of history and created a better tomorrow.” Lizárraga was recognized at the 2007 Latino Leaders Summit in Dallas, Texas.

“I am deeply honored to receive this distinguished recognition from Latino Leaders—a premier forum for discussing and advancing pertinent issues that impact our community,” said Lizárraga, who is serving his third term as USHCC Chairman.

As President & CEO of TELACU/Millennium, Lizárraga believes in a “double bottom-line” philosophy, where economic viability and profitability are inseparable from social impact. The largest CDC in the nation, TELACU operates a variety of businesses providing valuable products and services to the community—such as jobs, affordable homes, small business loans, and the creation of community assets.

Advocating for education as a chief vehicle toward economic and social empowerment, Lizárraga is the Founder and Chairman of the TELACU Education Foundation, one of the most effective national institutions ever to impact the educational needs of Latinos. The Foundation annually serves 600 full-time college students in California, Illinois, Texas and New York, as well as 2,000 elementary, middle and high school students and veterans.

Additionally, Lizárraga has served as a Governor’s appointee to the State of California New Motor Vehicle Board, the California World Trade Commission, and the California Arts Council. Working to provide greater access to capital for Latino entrepreneurs, individuals and families, he has shared his expertise and leadership with a variety of prominent business organizations and corporations—including Citi, Bank of America and Wachovia, and he Co-Chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Corporate America Task Force.

TELACU is a pioneering institution committed to service, empowerment, advancement, and the creation of self-sufficiency.
