A Distinctive Blend of Food, Art and Culture
Tamayo Restaurant offers the best of both worlds: a luxurious upscale dinning experience with down to earth prices in an artistic and historic atmosphere.
The restaurant sits inside a 1928 renovated hacienda with tile floors and a high ceiling with massive wooden beams over adobe walls lined with paintings from famous Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo. But the artist’s influence doesn’t end there.
The restaurant also serves molé made from Olga Tamayo’s personal recipe. And if you’re a fan of the chocolately molé, Tamayo will have you cheering for several of its dishes such as the mouthwatering pollo en molé poblano, a halfchicken braised and served with the flavorful sauce and accompanied by Mexican rice andrefried beans.
The regulars also rave about house specialties like the spicy camarones a la Tamayo, a delicious jumbo shrimp dish sautéed with lemon, garlic, cilantro and olive oil with coconut milk and chipotle chili. But that isn’t the only noteworthy item on the menu. Another favorite specialty dish at Tamayo is the chile Colorado, a beef sirloin simmered in red chili sauce.
The contemporary Mexican restaurant also offers a variety of seafood dishes such as the popular Pacific red snapper sautéed in olive oil with tomatoes, onion, red and green bell peppers, capers, garlic and cilantro. And for a totally original seafood experience try the camarones Costa Azul, five baked jumbo shrimp stuffed with sliced jalapeño, ham and cheese wrapped in bacon and topped with roasted tomatillo, cherry tomato sauce and chipotle chili.
