Empowering New Generations of Leaders
The TELACU Education Foundation’s mission is to increase economic and social mobility for first-generation college-bound students from low- and moderate-income households through higher education and talent development—two important pathways to success.
Early on, we learned that wraparound services, educational experts, and professional role models are just as critical as scholarships to closing the gaps faced by students in the communities served by TELACU. To most effectively meet their needs, our College Readiness and College Success Programs annually provide as many as 2,000 highschoolers, college and graduate school students, and veterans—our amazing TELACU Scholars—with a unique combination of financial resources, comprehensive services and an unwavering support system. This proven model helps ensure that our students earn a college degree and graduate equipped to launch into successful careers, particularly in high-growth, high-impact sectors.
Even armed with the requisite academic credentials, many young people struggle in the professional world. Deepening our commitment to TELACU Scholars’ long-term success, our STEAM & Business and Workforce Preparation Initiatives equip these young people to achieve success in high-demand, emerging sectors.
Beginning in high school, the STEAM & Business Initiative exposes our students to these rigorous disciplines and promotes the pursuit of careers in these fields. Once in college, students also participate in our Workforce Preparation Academy, equipping them with the skills, tools, resources, and experiences—including connections to internship and employment opportunities with Foundation Partners—needed to succeed in the increasingly technical and competitive 21st Century workforce. Our goal is not only for the students we serve to earn a college degree, but also to become successful professionals—and the vast majority are the first in their family to do both!
For more than forty years, our TELACU Scholars and Alumni have built an outstanding legacy. Historically, 99% of our highschoolers graduate and enroll in post-secondary education, and over 99% of our college seniors earn at minimum a Bachelor’s—more than 75% of which are in a STEAM- or Business-related discipline!
Thanks to our network of committed partners, tens of thousands of TELACU Scholar Alumni nationwide are impacting public policy at all levels of government; engineering a more prosperous future for us all; pioneering breakthroughs in cutting-edge labs such as NASA/JPL, CalTech, Harvard and MIT; innovating solutions in science and technology; advancing our economy as corporate executives; creating jobs as entrepreneurs and small business owners; cultivating leaders from grammar to graduate school; and improving healthcare outcomes as doctors, nurses and public health officials.
